Northern has announced the introduction of further penalty fare routes across the network.

A spokesman for Northern said: “Northern is introducing £500m of new trains across its network over the next 12 months to provide a much better experience for customers, with free WiFi, at-seat power sockets, air conditioning and more space than the trains they will replace.

Northern has now refurbished more than 50 per cent of its trains. The news comes as Northern launched its 123rd refurbished train into service.

Northern has introduced the first of its fully refurbished trains to the North East.

Northern’s plan to refurbish its fleet of trains is on track following the first completion of upgrade work to a Class 333 train.
