Nothern's Deputy Managing Director Richard Allan has responded to the latest release from RMT union.

Northern is bolstering its services to help customers in Cheshire get where they need to be during RMT strike action.

Northern will keep its customers on the move during RMT strike action on Saturday 3 March by running more than 1,000 rail services.

Northern stations scooped 13 gongs at the prestigious Cheshire Best Kept Stations awards evening.

The train operator has worked closely with local community rail groups during the past 12 months and it was the efforts of these local heroes that were recognised on the night.

Richard Allan, Northern’s Deputy Managing Director, said: "We are delivering our modernisation plans for customers with almost £500m of new trains under construction, £7m spent so far on improving our stations, 70 refurbished trains in service, 400 extra people recruited, and much more to come by 2020.

Northern’s customers in and around Bolton are being warned to plan weekend travel carefully.

Due to a line-side fire between Rochdale and Todmorden it is unsafe to run trains along this route. There will therefore be no services between these stations until at least 09:00, disupting services between Manchester Victoria and Leeds.

Northern’s modernisation is gathering speed with the first completed new train due off the production line in a matter of weeks.

Train operators are asking customers to plan for Easter journeys after it was announced Manchester Victoria will be closed for four days.

The railway between Blackpool South and Preston is on track to reopen as planned on Monday (29 January) as the first phase of Blackpool’s railway revolution is completed.

Due to a derailed freight train between Sunderland and Hartlepool, train services between Newcastle and Middlesbrough via Hartlepool are seriously disrupted.

Northern is reminding its customers to plan carefully ahead of the third day of RMT strike action this week.
