Northern colleagues enjoying the new staff facilities

Northern invests £10m in traincrew facility upgrades

Train operator Northern is investing £10 million to upgrade its facilities for more than a thousand staff across its network.

More than £8million has been spent so far in locations such as Leeds, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road, Blackpool, Workington, Barrow and Buxton.

Staff based in Liverpool, Huddersfield, Hull, Carlisle, Wigan, Harrogate, Doncaster and Middlesbrough will now see similar changes including new kitchen facilities, back-office areas and new seating and sofas.

In addition to investment in traincrew facilities a separate programme has seen train presentation teams benefit from similar upgrades, meaning that more than 1,350 people will have a better place to relax while on their breaks.

Mark Powles, customer and commercial director, said: “We’re not only investing in staff facilities, but we’re also investing in our people. We want Northern to be a welcoming and friendly place to work.

“We’re making sure downtime from the hustle and bustle of the working day is enjoyable as well as making sure staff are well rested for their safety critical roles.”
