Northern releases details of planned cancellations in the North West on Sunday 12 August

Northern has released details of planned cancellations to train services that customers are likely to face on Sunday 12 August on parts of our network in the North West. We are sorry for any disruption customers may experience.

Northern has released details of planned cancellations to train services that customers are likely to face on Sunday 12 August on parts of our network in the North West. We are sorry for any disruption customers may experience.

Northern is announcing the removal of some services on several corridors in the North-West so that customers can have more certainty in planning their journeys on Sunday.

The level of planned cancellations is still being worked on and every effort is being made to reduce the number, but our current expectation is that around 80 services will not run out of a total of 1,500 train services on Sunday.

Routes have been chosen carefully to minimise the impact on customers. On each of the affected routes, our customers will have a range of alternative options available to them, including: other Northern services, trains run by other operators or rail replacement transport. Ticket acceptance is in place, more details below.

The areas most affected will be: Liverpool, Greater Manchester and Lancashire. We would like to apologise to customers whose plans and journeys will be disrupted.

In these areas, ongoing engineering projects have caused severe difficulties around the short-notice scheduling of our train crews and this is the root cause of what has required us to make these planned cancellations to our main Sunday timetable.

A spokesman for Northern, said: “We are sorry that our customers continue to experience some disruption to their weekend services. We are advising anyone thinking of travelling on Sunday on these routes to plan their journey carefully”.

Planned cancellations will be updated on the Northern website or National Rail Enquiries websites and apps overnight, so customers should check on Saturday morning for the latest information. Customers are also encouraged to use the station help-points to ask about alterative arrangements.

Anyone whose journey is delayed by 30 minutes or more can apply for compensation via Delay Repay. Details of the scheme and how to apply can be found here.
