Northern keeping its customers on the move

Northern’s plans to keep customers on the move are right on track today.

By 10am, more than 300 trains had reached their destinations with more than 90 per cent of those on time.

Thoughts are now turning to the afternoon peak as Northern continues to plan for the impact of the latest round of strike action by RMT union.

Liam Sumpter, Regional Director at Northern, said: “This morning we ran an effective and efficient service, using trains and rail replacement buses, which was able to get our customers where they needed to be. And, with more than 90 per cent of services running to time, our customers were able to travel without significant delays to their plans.

“We will continue to operate services throughout the day and are now looking ahead to the late afternoon peak. We are also asking our customers to give the evening rush hour some thought too.

“Trains are expected to be extremely busy this evening and many timetables will be amended as a result of the strike action.”

Northern services will begin to wind down from 5pm, with very few available after 7pm.

Liam added: “It is vitally important that our customers are aware of the potential impact to their travel and plan ahead for this evening by either checking the Northern mobile app, visiting the Northern website, or by looking at National Rail Enquiries.

“I’d like to thank our customers for their patience so far today, and ask that they continue to work with us as we head into the evening peak. I’d also like to thank our staff who continue to work hard to operate our trains and look after our customers.”
