Calder Valley route reopened following heavy snowfall - updated 2.15pm

Northern services have returned to the Calder Valley after customers were earlier asked not to travel due to heavy snowfall overnight.

Several trees had fallen onto the line between Halifax and Rochdale, but these have now been cleared by colleagues at Network Rail.

With the line clear, services are now running between Leeds and Manchester, via Halifax and Bradford, though delays and cancellations are likely for several hours.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Heavy snow fell across many parts of our network overnight and into this morning and caused significant disruption in many areas.

“Thankfully all routes are now open are services are running, albeit with some delays. I'd like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding today and can reassure them that we are doing everything we can to restore normal working to all routes as soon as possible."
