Northern honours RAF at Newcastle ceremony

Northern is to unveil a specially decorated train to celebrate the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

On Saturday 23 June officials from Northern and the RAF, as well as other special guests, will attend Newcastle station to celebrate the launch of the train – which will also be named in honour of the air force.

The ceremony will start at 10.30am and media are invited to attend to take photographs, gather video footage and speak to those involved in the ceremony. Media should arrive no later than 10.15am.

After the ceremony the newly unveiled train will make a short journey for VIPs and local Air Cadets to Durham where they will then attend a service at Durham Cathedral.

Mike Paterson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “We are proud and honoured to be able to support the RAF in its centenary year.

“The specially commissioned artwork and the train naming is a small way to say ‘thank you’ for the unbelievable work the RAF carries out on our behalf in the UK and around the world.”
