Northern and Network Rail improve Bredbury car park

Northern and Network Rail are working together to deliver a better car park for rail travelers at Bredbury, near Stockport.

The station car park has suffered from poor drainage for some time and, during recent heavy rain, localized flooding affected the area.

This week Network Rail, with the help of Northern, has been on site to improve the drainage and resurface the whole car park.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “We are absolutely committed to delivering the best possible journey experience for our customers whether that is buying tickets, travelling on our trains, or parking at our stations.

“The work being carried out by Network Rail will give our customers a more reliable parking area able to better cope with poor weather conditions.”

Work on the car park is set to continue until Monday 27 January with some overnight closures necessary.

Phil James, North West route director at Network Rail, said: “Making our railway and our stations more weather resilient for our customers is a big part of our putting passengers first initiative.

“This is why we’re delivering £40,000 of drainage improvements at Bredbury station’s car park, so that it can remain in use for passengers all year round.”
