Worksop 1

New lease of life for Worksop railway station

Worksop station has been refurbished and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held

Worksop station has been given a new lease of life thanks to an extensive refurbishment.

Customers using the Grade II listed station will now benefit from three new ticket vending machines and will have a more comfortable environment after the canopy and footbridge were also repainted.

To celebrate the work, which was completed at the end of July, Northern recently held an opening ceremony with customers and local business invited to come along and see the transformation for themselves.

The guest of honour was Nigel Dawber, who worked at a ticket office clerk at the station before retiring last year. Nigel’s dedication to the station made him the obvious choice to cut the ribbon to mark a new era for the popular station.

Northern’s Station Delivery Manager, Phil Sheard, said:  “The station looks fantastic, and the team involved have worked hard to improve the station environment for our customers, as well as providing more ticket buying facilities.

“Thank you to the North Notts and Lincs Community Rail Partnership who worked alongside Northern, Network Rail and contractors CML to being this project to life.”

Phil added: “We were delighted to welcome Nigel back to the station to cut the ribbon, he has been a valuable part of the Northern team for many years.

“Worksop is a key station on the Sheffield to Lincoln route and as part of our plans to improve the network will offer fast and frequent journeys to major cities across the North.”
