More jobs on offer as Northern marks National Careers Week

Northern has launched its latest search for those seeking a career in the rail industry.

To mark National Careers Week, and coinciding with World Engineering Day, the rail operator is highlighting vacancies across the north of England.

Among the jobs on offer are roles based in Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside.

On World Engineering Day, Northern is looking to add to its team of train presentation specialists who work at depots to clean and prepare the trains ready for days out on the network.

Brian Currie, People Director at Northern, said: “This is a fantastic time for people to think about either taking their first steps on a career in the rail industry or making their move to an operator that is in the middle of a programme that’s transforming rail travel in the region.

“We employ more than 6,000 people in the north, in a huge variety of roles, and are always on the lookout for more talent people to join us as we deliver a rail service that calls at more than 500 stations – 20% of all UK stations.”

As well as the engineering vacancies, Northern is also searching for people to fill roles for station staff at Barnsley, Guide Bridge and Wilmslow, as well as with the driver and conductor teams in Manchester.

Brian added: “We are particularly keen to deliver a diverse workforce that represents the communities we serve and want to attract more black, ethnic minority, female and younger people to rail.

“Our message to prospective employees is that, whoever they are and whatever their background, they can trust that Northern is a great place to work and a great place to forge a career.”

Demonstrating its commitment to diversity and inclusion, Northern runs a range of employee inclusion groups, boasts a 250 strong employee engagement group, and runs an extensive equality, diversity and inclusion events calendar.
