Cheshire station given makeover by volunteers
One of Northern’s Cheshire stations has been given a makeover thanks to a team of volunteers.
The newly formed Glazebrook station adoption group organised a day of action, giving the station a makeover alongside volunteers from Northern.
The group teamed up to clear vegetation and litter pick the area on Saturday, 2 July.
Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern said: “I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to spend the day at Glazebrook – there has been an amazing transformation in just one day.
“Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the North of England.”
“Our work within the community is part of our wider programme of improvements at many of our stations – including improved accessibility, car park refurbishments and improved CCTV – to encourage all our customers to ‘go do their thing’ and explore the north.
Tony Prescott, project and operations manager at local community charity the Hamilton Davies Trust, who co-founded the adoption group with Cllr Phil Eastty of Warrington Borough Council, said: "There were 12 of us at this first adoption group event. We did plenty of cutting back and ground clearing. Everybody mucked in and we had a great time. Everyone is looking forward to being members of the Friends of Glazebrook Station.
He added: "We welcome new members. If you'd like to get involved, please contact us."
Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,000 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
