Time back way back

Barrow-in-Furness goes back to the future

Northern customers and local residents will be taken on a different kind of journey as Barrow-in-Furness transforms into a post-apocalyptic science fiction fantasy.

Launching on Wednesday 22 November, Time Back Way Back will take over Barrow-in-Furness station for an art exhibition like no other. Local film and media company, Signal Film and Media is hosting the event with exhibitions, performances and virtual reality tours taking place at the Northern station.

The event will have a local feel and will showcase some of Barrow’s leading talents such as youth singing company, Be Vocal, and renowned artist Sam Meech.

Contemporary installations will also be installed including a large fidget spinner, an archaeological virtual tour and light displays.

Jane Murray, Station Manager of Barrow-in-Furness said: “This is one of the most exciting projects I have been involved in and a great coup for Barrow in Furness Station.

“It not only is a great opportunity for our own customers to be able to experience this ‘fantasy show’ but our wider community. The preview evening is an exciting opportunity to meet the artist and ask questions of how this whole project came about and to see some great entertainment.

Sam Meech, one of the artists’ performing added: “The show is not a historical document of Barrow, but an absurd imaginary leap into a future world, in which the technology of today, both digital and mechanical, leaves unusual traces.”
