13 is lucky for Northern at Best Kept Stations event
Northern stations scooped 13 gongs at the prestigious Cheshire Best Kept Stations awards evening.
The train operator has worked closely with local community rail groups during the past 12 months and it was the efforts of these local heroes that were recognised on the night.
Amongst the winners were Friends of Romiley, who won Most Improved Station, Friends of Rose Hill Station, who won the In Bloom award, and Friends of Handforth Station who won the Youth Challenge Award.
In all Northern stations managed to took home 13 of a possible 22 awards, clearly demonstrating the dedication and enthusiasm of all the groups involved.
Vicky Cropper, Community and Sustainability Manager for Northern, said: “We are absolutely delighted that these hard working groups have been recognised for their outstanding work.
“The groups work tirelessly all year to make our stations more attractive, safer and friendlier places to be for our customers; they definitely deserve these great awards.”
Rachel Singer, Chair of Friends of Rose Hill Station, said: “Winning this award makes all the hard work we carry out so much easier. It’s fantastic to know that we are making a difference to our station and to our community.”

Arts Project – Marple
Youth Challenge Award – Handforth
In Bloom Award – Rose Hill Marple
Best Staffed Award – Poynton, John Hobbs Award – Hattersley, TfGM Award – Heaton Chapel
Cheshire West and Chester Award – Delamere
